What is Speed Dating?
Speed Dating first took place in the USA in 1998. During a Speed
Dating event men and women are rotated around the room for a series
of short 'dates' which usually last from three to ten minutes depending
on the organisers and the event. At the end of the allotted time the
event organisers will ring a bell or press a buzzer to signal to everyone
participating that they are to move on the next 'date'.
The idea is to meet a number of other singles and get quickly aquainted,
get enough of an experience with the other person to know if you want
to see the person again. At the end of the event everyone hands to
the organisers their response sheets which has who they would like
their contact information given to. The contact information is only
sent out if there is a match and both parties are requested their
information be given to the other.
